What you will do

Johnson Controls is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer for our Security Intrusion global product organization based in Concord, ON. You will be a key member of the hardware design team and be responsible for system level and board level design. You’ll have the opportunity to develop new products from specification, through design and testing to final production, optimizing for cost, design integrity and reliability and also be the technical leader on complex projects. This position is onsite and based in Concord, ON. Candidates must be commuting distance, or able to relocate.

How you will do it

  • Responsible for technical leadership and accountability for completion of product development activities meeting design, budget and schedule requirements and ensuring designs are cost effective to manufacture and compliant to the Product Specification.

  • Create detailed hardware design, testing and verification and validation of new products and systems, meeting all requirements.

  • Assists in project planning activities such as work breakdown, schedule and cost estimates.

  • Prepares documentation such as Functional Specifications, Theory of Operation, detailed design documents, test plans, verification test reports, and bill of materials.

  • Keeps informed on the latest devices, techniques and technical developments which may be applied to new product design.

  • Performs research and feasibility studies to contribute to the design and development of new products, systems and specifications.

  • Provides technical support, in a timely fashion, to other departments, such as Manufacturing and Customer Service.

  • Participates in technical liaison with customers and suppliers.

  • Provides technical guidance to more junior engineering and technical staff and may assist in related training and development initiatives.

  • Follows workplace operating and environmental, health and safety procedures and guidelines.

What you will need
Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering.

  • 5-7 years of experience in board level design.

  • Digital and analog experience utilizing acceptable engineering design practices.

  • Proven design skills with ARM processors (E.g. Qualcomm, NXP, ST).

  • Proven design skills with ARM microcontrollers (E.g. ST, TI, Microchip, NXP)

  • Detailed understanding of EMC and RF design problems and solutions.

  • Familiar with Altium schematic capture and PCB layout tools.

  • Detailed understanding of circuit board layout regarding signal integrity, noise and emissions.

  • Familiar with product approvals procedures and requirements such as safety, radiated and conducted emissions.

  • P.ENG

  • Familiarity with designing for a high-volume manufacturing environment

  • Familiar with circuit analysis tools such as MATLAB, SPICE

  • Familiar with RF design practices

  • Firmware
