In alignment with the vision and values of the organization, the Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, working in collaboration with Cardiologists, Registered Nurses, and other health professionals to provide comprehensive, patient-centered cardiac care.

The NP provides advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for patients with underlying cardiac conditions and related comorbidities. This includes care for individuals with diagnoses such as heart failure, arrhythmias, and other common cardiac concerns.

Balancing independent practice with collaborative care, the NP works closely with the Cardiology team at Royal Inland Hospital across the continuum of care-from initial admission and assessment, through collaborative care planning and treatment implementation, to discharge planning and post-discharge follow-up. The NP develops and adjusts treatment plans, monitors diagnostics, and optimizes ongoing care to support safe transitions and improved outcomes.
This role supports high-quality, evidence-informed cardiac care delivery and strengthens the team-based approach to improving outcomes for patients with complex cardiovascular needs.

Salary Range: Salary range for the position is $74.74/hour - $82.21/hour. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant.

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnosis and Treatment: Assess and diagnose undifferentiated diseases and conditions, provide treatment, and prescribe medications in line with the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice and regulatory standards.

Care Management: Monitor ongoing care, order diagnostic investigations, interpret results, and develop tailored treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes.

Patient Communication: Establish care priorities, provide follow-up treatment, and communicate effectively with patients and families about diagnoses, care plans, and prognoses.

Collaboration and Consultation: Work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, and create individualized treatment plans. May also admit and discharge patients as per organizational policies.

Prescribing Medication: Prescribe medications within legal and regulatory guidelines, ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical treatments.

Leadership and Supervision: Lead and guide other nursing and healthcare personnel. Provide education, supervision, and performance evaluations to support professional development.

Research and Innovation: Contribute to research aimed at enhancing patient care and advancing nursing practices. Participate in initiatives to influence healthcare policies and population health strategies.

Health Promotion: Lead health promotion activities and screenings, focusing on at-risk populations to prevent illness and promote well-being.

Education and Mentorship: Facilitate interdisciplinary education through case presentations, mentoring, and collaboration in clinical and community settings. Support continuous learning and knowledge sharing.

Policy Development: Develop, implement, and evaluate policies related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices.

Palliative and Long-Term Care: Serve as the most responsible provider for patients in palliative, hospice, and long-term care settings when required.

Safety and Compliance: Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Ensure compliance with training and incident investigation protocols.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as necessary to support patient care and organizational goals.

Qualfications
Education: Master’s degree in Nursing (NP) or equivalent.
Certification:
• Current registration and exam-qualified as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Experience:
• Experience in acute care with privileging and credentialing is required.
• Recent, relevant clinical nursing experience.
• Cardiac/Acute Nurse Practitioner/Registered Nurse experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a clinical or healthcare setting, with the ability to diagnose, treat, and manage patient care is considered an asset.
