We are currently seeking a casual Life Skills Worker 1 to join our Mental Health team at the Harbour House in Trail, B.C.

What will you work on?
Life Skills Workers play an important role in health care. They plan, observe, monitor and report on clients’ progress and level of acceptance to services and support.
This position works as a member of an integrated team to provide structured support services to clients. Monitors clients in accordance with established treatment objectives and/or care plans; observes client’s behaviours and symptoms, documents observations in accordance with standard procedures and/or providing verbal reports on changes in client’s appearance, behavior, and/or health. Provides support to clients in the development and maintenance of life skills. Demonstrates and models appropriate behaviours and provides support in problem solving and decision-making. Assists clients with activities of daily living. Participates in activities to support skill development. Liaises, monitors and coordinates services with mental health and substance use staff, medical professionals, and other relevant service providers.
Scheduling Information:
The shifts for this position are days, evenings and nights. Shift times rotate from 07:00 to 18:00, 09:10 to 19:, 19:00 to 07:00 hours. This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements can vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week. Many careers with us begin with casual employment and lead to permanent or temporary career opportunities.
About this location/unit
The Harbour House is a nine-bed tertiary care facility for clients requiring longer-term residential psychosocial rehabilitation. 6 beds are Tertiary Specialized Residential and 3 beds are Tertiary Rehabilitative. Care at Harbour House is provided by a multidisciplinary team including nurses, occupational therapists, outreach workers, social workers and psychiatrists. Treatment is coordinated with the community mental health teams to aid in seamless support for the client as they relocate into the community.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience:
• Grade 12
• Certificate in a field relevant to the position (i.e.: community social services, rehabilitation)
• One year recent related experience working with individuals experiencing mental health and substance use problems; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Valid certificates in CPR, First Aid and Food Safe required
• Current valid B.C. Driver’s License (Class 5).
