Position Summary
Are you a Practical Nurse ready to return to practice but don’t meet the practice hour requirements to register with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)? Interior Health supports approved applicants of BCCNM’s Supervised Practice Experience (SPE) with casual employment opportunities and provides access to the necessary mentorship to effectively reintegrate into the workforce!

About Supervised Practice Experience (SPE)
Successful candidates will submit an SPE proposal to BCCNM to obtain their provisional license; once approved, they are assigned a preceptor and complete 400 SPE hours as a casual employee in their preceptor’s rotation. Following successful completion of SPE hours, the candidate is eligible to apply for full practicing registration with BCCNM.

By completing your SPE with Interior Health, you will have access to:
• A streamlined recruitment process that aligns SPE eligible candidates with suitable placements in their previous practice area
• A paid opportunity to complete the required 400 SPE hours to obtain your full practicing license again
• Assurance that as a returning nurse you will receive the adequate supervision and mentorship to meet your professional development goals in a culturally sensitive and supportive environment
• Casual employment that will automatically continue beyond successful completion of SPE hours and offer access to other internal vacancies at that time

About the Job:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN):
• Performs assessments and plans, implements and provides personal and nursing care to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; the scope or extent of the skills that the LPN performs varies according to the predictability of the outcome for a given client population
• Administers oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications in accordance with pharmaceutical and organizational policies and procedures
• Operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), and according to organizational policies, procedures, standards and unit specific protocols

This is a Casual opportunity. Casual Employees are not guaranteed hours of work and can range from 0-37.5 hours per week on an as-needed basis. Please note that while you are completing your SPE hours you will be paired with a preceptor and will be working that preceptor’s schedule in full. This could include part-time or full-time hours and generally will include days and nights; rotating from 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00 hours.

Qualfications
• Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses
• At least two years of consolidated practice (typically considered two years of full-time practice completed shortly after graduation)
• At least two years practice experience in a Canadian setting
• Practice experience within the last 10 years
