Description
We are working with a prominent Oil & Gas manufacturer seeking a dynamic and experienced Service Centre Manager to oversee the daily operations in our service facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the flow of customer inspection jobs in accordance with shop procedures, company standards, and safe work practices. This role ensures efficient operations, regulatory compliance, quality control, and effective leadership of service centre personnel.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operations & Job Co-ordinations
- Plan, schedule, and assign work to shop staff to meet customer and operational requirements
- Coordinate customer inspection jobs with lead hands to ensure timely and accurate execution
- Review job status logs and monitor workflow progress
- Analyze and resolve work-related issues; assist staff in problem-solving as required
- Recommend and implement improvements to workflow, equipment utilization, and quality standards
- Optimize workflows to improve efficiency, turnaround time, and cost control
Inspection & Technical Oversight
- Ensure proper inspection procedures and safe work practices are followed on all customer jobs
- Understand and inspect in accordance with MPI and UT procedures
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job procedures with staff
- Review customer jobs for accuracy and completeness prior to invoicing
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Enforce company policies, safety regulations, and safe work practices
- Organize and lead shop meetings focused on safety, quality, and operational efficiency
- Ensure shop maintenance is completed, documented, and compliant
- Coordinate audits and ensure corrective actions are completed with lead hands
Leadership & People Management
- Supervise service centre personnel in accordance with company policies and applicable laws
- Hire, train, coach, and develop shop personnel
- Conduct performance appraisals and manage disciplinary actions as required
- Schedule staffing to meet operational demands and manage overtime
- Address employee and operational issues, complaints, and conflicts professionally
Administration & Customer Interface
- Confirm employee timesheets and labour allocation
- Review shop consumable logs and ensure inventory accuracy
- Act as the primary on-site contact for customers and key accounts
- Communicate effectively with customers, internal departments, and management
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Experience
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- 7+ years experience in oil & gas operations, service centres, or field services
- 3-5 years experience in a supervisory or management role within an oilfield environment
- Strong understanding of oilfield products, inspection services, and service centre operations
- Experience managing yard operations, inventory, and multi-shift teams
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Leadership or safety management training is an asset
Skills & Competencies
- Highly energetic, organized, and self-motivated
- Strong operational leadership and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage 20-30 shop technicians
- Excellent communication skills, both internal and external
- Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to operate within budgets and demonstrate sound financial judgment
- Proficient with ERP systems, inventory management tools, and Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-accountability oilfield environment
- Ability to manage stressful situations effectively
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, operating manuals, customer standards, and technical documentation
- Ability to perform general mathematical calculations (discounts, markups, percentages, area, volume)
Physical Demands
- Ability to operate various machinery and power tools
- Frequently lift between 10 to 100 pounds
- Ability to wear and work comfortably in required PPE
Work Environment
- Exposure to moderate to high noise levels
- Work conducted both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- High-pressure testing areas
- Electrical-powered and industrial shop equipment
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range $70,000 - $90,000 depending on experience
