About The Position
As a Construction Safety Officer (CSO) / Carpenter, you’ll divide your time between site safety duties and hands-on carpentry or skilled labor work, depending on project needs. Reporting to the Superintendent, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining safe, compliant, and well-managed construction sites-especially during high-risk overnight operations in active commercial settings.
This is a 100% site-based role; the role requires working on the Night Shift based on Projects and performing carpentry tasks as needed.
- Location: Greater Vancouver & Lower Mainland job sites
- Mix of day and night shifts (approx. 50/50)
- Compensation details:
- Base Salary: $30/hr. - $38/hr. (DOE)
- Night Shift Premium: +$5/hr. for overnight work
- Bonus: Extended Health Care (employer-paid), Dental Care, Disability Insurance (STD/LTD - employer-paid, taxable benefit), Paid Time Off / Standard Vacation
- RRSP Matching - 5%
Responsibilities
Safety Responsibilities
- Manage daily on-site safety in alignment with WorkSafeBC and City of Vancouver requirements
- Conduct site inspections, toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards, regulations, and company procedures
- Support the Superintendent in fostering a strong safety culture and enforcement
- Act as the on-site First Aid Attendant (Intermediate or Advanced First Aid required)
- Document incidents, close calls, safety reports, and corrective actions
Construction / Carpentry Responsibilities
(Performed especially on smaller sites or when the safety workload is lighter)
- Perform commercial carpentry tasks, including forming and framing
- Install and fit: Doors, Windows, Baseboards, Stairs, Flooring
- Perform general construction and skilled labor tasks as required
- Support the Superintendent and field crews with daily site requirements
Requirements:
- Valid CSO certification
- Personal Vehicle
- Intermediate First Aid (OFA2) or Advanced First Aid
- Carpentry experience in commercial or general construction
- Proven experience working on active construction sites (CSO, Carpenter, or Carpenter’s Helper)
- Willingness to:
- Split time between safety duties and hands-on construction work
- Work night shifts (10 PM-6 AM); this is essential as some projects will be specifically night shifts
Work Environment
- Fully site-based
- Active commercial construction sites (noise, dust, tools, lifts, uneven surfaces)
- PPE required at all times
- Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting, and navigating busy job sites
- High communication role: regular interaction with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors.
