ROLE

Physiotherapists are regulated health professionals who work with patients, families and caregivers to provide a patient-centered and evidence-based approach to care. The practice of physiotherapy is the assessment of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory systems, the diagnosis of diseases or disorders associated with physical dysfunction, injury or pain and the treatment, rehabilitation and prevention or relief of physical dysfunction, injury or pain to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment function and promote mobility.

At the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance - Therapies Department, Physiotherapists work in the following clinical areas: acute medicine, complex continuing care, rehabilitation, pediatrics, surgical services, stroke care (acute & rehabilitation), emergency department and inpatient mental health.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

  • Master’s Degree in Science (Physiotherapy) or recognized equivalent based on Registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  • Member in good standing of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Valid Ontario drivers’ license and ability to travel among sites, as required

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

  • Clinical expertise and experience in acute care hospital environment in the areas of medicine, neurological and general rehabilitation, complex continuing care, orthopedics physiotherapy
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence based best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to practice effectively in an interprofessional collaborative environment
  • Working knowledge of and experience with theories and principles guiding adult learning and patient self-management approaches
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, problem-solving and innovation skills
  • Oxygen titration and suctioning experience and rostering of skills is an asset
  • Ability to appropriately assign care to and supervise physiotherapy assistants (OTA/PTAs)
  • Proven flexibility and a high level of initiative
  • Evidence of continued professional growth and/or professional development
  • Appreciation of resource utilization
  • Computer skills, including health information systems (e.g., Meditech) and MS Office

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

  • Experience with inpatient service delivery is an asset
