The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board (the Board) is inviting applications to work with
our system curriculum support team as an Indigenous Education Lead reporting to the
Superintendent of Education. This one year temporary teaching position commences on
September 1, 2025, and ends on June 26, 2026. This position is an integral member of the
system curriculum support team providing support to school teams K-12 to deepen educator
understanding of effective instructional strategies in Indigenous Education that are data driven
and research based. This position will work closely with schools in their efforts to embed
Indigenous content as per the Ministry of Education, support the wellness, well-being and
school experiences of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students, demonstrating a professional and
personal commitment to high levels of student achievement and well-being. The Indigenous
Lead will collaborate and liaise with local First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities,
organizations, students and families, develop, monitor and report on the boards’ Indigenous
Board Action Plan (BAP), enhance the knowledge and awareness of all students about First
Nation, Métis and Inuit cultures, histories and perspectives, and improve Indigenous student
achievement and well-being.
The Board is committed to the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of
Canada: Calls to Action, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples, as a guiding principle and a strategic direction. The candidate must also have a
demonstrated ability to advance human rights and take actions that address racism in all its
forms, while promoting Equity and demonstrating Anti-Oppressive pedagogy. The successful
candidate will have a proven track record of teaching and planning, with the ability to adapt to a
diverse student body. This position will initially be located at the Catholic Education Centre in
Dublin, Ontario with travel required to various school locations within Huron and Perth counties,
along with attending regional and provincial meetings. The successful candidate will be
remunerated for working five (5) days per week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work directly with educators to support the goals of the Board and on the integration of
Education for Reconciliation by addressing the ongoing implementation needs of
educators to build capacity to effectively serve the diverse needs of students and school
communities.
Assist schools and educators in the selection of appropriate instructional, assessment
and evaluation resources which directly support historically and currently marginalized
students, focusing on First Nation, Métis, and Inuit students.
Facilitate and support educators to further embed Indigenous perspectives across
multiple curricular areas.
Co-develop and co-facilitate high quality and effective professional learning
opportunities for staff and students.
Provide in-class support for Indigenous community partners as guest speakers as
determined by Board Strategic Plan initiatives.
Foster and enhance connections with Indigenous community partners and
organizations.
Respond to school-based inquiries related to Indigenous Education.
Support transformational change to integrate anti-colonial, anti-racist, anti-oppressive
and equity principles into programs and practices to eliminate systemic inequities.
Participate in the acquisition/distribution of appropriate resources as determined by the
Superintendent of Education.
Ensure alignment between the Ministry, the Board, and schools regarding the
implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, and
Ministerial Directives.
Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusion in the development and
implementation of programs and services.
Provide professional learning to support school improvement in all aspects of the
infusion of Indigenous perspectives, histories, cultures and worldviews across the
curriculum, and the implementation of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies and Native
Languages curriculum.
Engage in pedagogical and instructional coaching, co-planning and co-teaching to
support classroom teachers, schools and learning networks.
Provide leadership to build staff capacity in Indigenous Education within various
subject/program areas.
Assist schools in the implementation of provincial and Board curriculum policies.
Support and coordinate on-going implementation of program initiatives and development
of best practices in Indigenous Education.
Attend Student, Parent/Caregiver and Community and departmental meetings, and
provide leadership to other departments in the effective support of School Improvement
Planning and implementation across the system.
Liaise with appropriate provincial organizations, community groups and other
departments within the Board.
Track and analyse system achievement data in the subject area and plan for system
improvement.
Provide mentoring, methodology and curriculum expertise to all schools and staff in best
practices in Indigenous Education.
Support secondary administrators and teachers in the implementation and delivery of
Native Languages programs and Cultures and Traditions programs;
Develop First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies curriculum support materials for
secondary credit courses and develop curriculum resource materials for the infusion of
Indigenous perspectives across the curriculum.
Develop Native Languages curriculum support materials.
Assist schools in the implementation of an inclusive and decolonial curriculum.
Work with the Elders Council, System Superintendent and Board Lead for Indigenous
Education to inform system initiatives and foci.
Ensure that our faith permeates the entire curriculum and life of our schools.
Establishing and supporting ways to achieve and implement the board’s strategic plan
and school improvement plans.
Embed and nurture the board’s mission, vision and strategic priorities in all aspects of
teaching and learning.
Promote and support accessible, inclusive, and equitable education practices both
inside and outside of the classroom.
Build knowledge and awareness of inclusivity with students, educators,
parents/guardians and the broader school community about disabilities, ableism, and
services and supports for students with disabilities.
Support with the development of resources and facilitate professional development
opportunities throughout the system.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to candidates who identify as Indigenous, Métis or Inuit
Achievement of a Bachelor’s degree in education is required
Knowledge of an Indigenous language is preferred
First Nations, Métis or Inuit Studies, Part 1 is required
Special Education, Part 1 is required
A minimum of five (5) years identified expertise in Indigenous teaching and learning
Demonstrated knowledge of local Indigenous communities and culture is required
Demonstrated commitment to high quality Catholic education, and a philosophy toward
staff, students and parents/caregivers that clearly reflects Catholic values
Extensive comprehension of and experience using the Ontario Language Curriculum
and corresponding documents and resources
Ability to effectively engage in co-planning, co-teaching and co-learning, co-reflecting on
lesson engagements, instruction and assessment practices aimed to augment equitable
learning environments with educators
Experience with and knowledge of intervention strategies and supports for students with
identified needs
Demonstrated leadership, coaching, mentorship or facilitator experience
Knowledge of the Indigenous Education, the Ontario Human Rights Code, Equity and
Inclusive Education, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the
Right to Read Inquiry
Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate and support critical dialogue on oppression,
marginalization, colonialism, and racism
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; including facilitation and presentation
skills demonstrated in a variety of settings and for various audiences
Ability to understand with sensitivity the effects and impacts of historical educational
experiences of Indigenous Peoples
Strong aptitude for building relationships, fostering teamwork and achieving shared
goals in a dynamic, progressive and multifaceted environment
Motivated and able to work in an inclusive and multidisciplinary team, as well as
independently
A proven record of being self-motivated and innovative, with demonstrated
problem-solving and analytical skills
Demonstrated collaboration experience with administration, educators and other staff
members
Knowledge and experience with Board-support IT platforms, including experience with
Google Suite, and demonstrated skill in the use of digital technology tools to support
teaching and learning
Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle
