Position Summary: The Speech Language Pathologist-Master is responsible for assessing and treating pediatric patients in assigned service areas, maintaining accurate patient documentation, and participating in program planning required and providing clinical supervision of assistants and speech language pathology students. The Speech Language Pathologist-Master reports directly to Senior Speech Language Pathologist and Pediatric Interprofessional Practice & Hearing Health Manager.

Position Duties: Under the direction of the Senior Speech Language Pathologist, the Speech Language Pathologist:
Plans and organizes activities of the position, which include:
Developing and evaluating treatment programs;
Establishing service priorities and managing waiting lists;
Coordinating programs of this service with those of other services, departments, or agencies;
Developing and updating service manuals (orientation, student manuals, etc.)
Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with patients, families, inter-professional teams, other services and department leadership.
Promoting a positive morale and teamwork.
- Ensure patients referred to the service receive effective and thorough speech language pathology services, which include:
- Utilizes professional skills and judgment in assessing patient’s needs, planning and implementing programs, using techniques best suited to the patient’s needs.
- Administers and interpret diagnostic tests and application of therapeutic treatments
- Provides counsel and instruction to patients/families and healthcare staff
- Participates in patient clinics, rounds, family meetings, etc. as necessary
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation, interdisciplinary plans and service statistics
- Participates in quality assurance programs
- Responsible for clinical teaching and supervision of Speech Language Pathology students
- Works together with other therapists, departments, or agencies by providing staff in-services, education, consultation, etc. with respect to Speech Language Pathology with primary emphasis on pediatric care.
- Adheres to SHA policy, procedure and standards of conduct. Follows safety rules as indicated to protect self, patients and equipment.
- Participates in program specific, discipline specific and SHA committee’s as required
- Participates in staff education programs, attends seminars, courses, conferences on a regular basis to remain current in speech language pathology and expand knowledge and skill.

- Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology
- Registered with the College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologist of Saskatchewan (CSASK)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Requires knowledge in pediatric development, assessment and treatment
Requires initiative and judgment to plan, implement and modify treatment programs according to client and program needs.
Must be able to plan, organize and coordinate efforts with allied health members as well as communicate effectively and adapt to changing conditions
Must be able to collect, record and report comprehensive patient information accurately in verbal, written and electronic formats in accordance with professional standards and SHA guidelines
Resourcefulness, ability to work independently and in collaboration with others is required
Requires concentration and attention for patient assessment, treatment, teaching and report writing
Multidimensional thinking and planning is essential
Requires coping skills to work with patients/families dealing with stress, loss and other psychosocial issues
Demonstrates effective communication skills with ability to integrate ideas into a team treatment approach when necessary
