Job Description: Reporting to the Manager, the Safety Consultant is accountable for the application of safety practices and standards to protect, promote and maintain the health & safety of the SHA. The incumbent is also responsible for the implementation of the SHA Management System that would support the existing Safety Program, with the intent of exceeding minimum standards in Health & Safety. The Consultant is responsible to ensure consistent application of all patient and staff safety legislation, regulations and practices, quality improvement methodologies and client concern handling. The position is expected to maintain quality and safety as outlined in the SHA Quality & Safety Plan and support the deployment and replication of the SHA Management System throughout the organization.

Experience

  • Experience in a discipline related role in the specific department/area/program
  • Experience in health care

Education

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in a health related field

Licenses

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Other Education and Training

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action
  • Knowledge of the healthcare system in Saskatchewan.
  • Knowledge of First Nations and Metis history in Saskatchewan

  • Travel within Saskatchewan is required
  • This position is specific to supporting the provincial roll out of the Safety Assurance Foundations for Employees (SAFE) program over the next two years.
  • SAFE is a facilitated training course designed to provide SHA leaders with the tools to more easily integrate staff safety into daily operations.  Through the development and use of leadership behaviors and practices, SAFE will advance a positive and impactful culture of safety within the SHA.
  • Knowledge of the SHA, along with strong organization, facilitation, coaching, and communication skills will be an asset.  The main tasks of this role will be to organize and deliver leadership training by portfolio, provide follow up support to participants to foster integration of the learnings into their daily work, and support the integration of SAFE program elements into existing staff safety resources and training.
