Job Description: Under the direction of a Program Manager and as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Social Worker Sr. MSW provides a complex range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination services to a primarily adult community mental health and addiction population. The incumbent provides program consultation and co-ordination, evaluation of clinical interventions, formal supervisory (clinical/ professional and/or administrative) relationship with other employees, preceptor students in formal clinical practicum, and provides professional and public education regarding mental health and addiction issues and resources. As a senior practitioner, acts as a resource for other professionals for mental health and addiction in the community.

  • 3 yrs (postgraduate) exp working in community mental health & addiction services

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge in various mental health and addiction and harm reduction strategies
  • Knowledge of community resources including treatment programs & support agencies
  • Exp. in mental health & addictions community outreach & crisis interventions
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prepare reports in a clear, concise and timely manner.
  • Ability to provide public presentation and professional training.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent consultation & public relation skills
  • Public relation skills with the ability to maintain effective work relationships
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, workload management and administration skills.
  • Ability to manage workload/staff development related to resource coordination
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Able to work independently in a self motivated manner & respond under pressure
  • Knowledge of Recovery Philosophy
  • Cultural competency and can work effectively in multicultural environment
  • Ability to identify, implement & evaluate areas of client difficulty
  • Formulate evidence based intervention
  • Knowledge of  intervention strategies for individual with Mental health problems

Other Information

  • Must have current practicing registration with SASW.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license. May require access to a vehicle for work.
  • Can work flexible hours; ability to work shifts based on operational needs
  • Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in
  • accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement
  • HSAS seniority in the SHA will be considered under the selection criteria
