Job Description: Under the direction of a Program Manager and as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Social Worker provides a range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination services to a primarily child and youth mental health and addiction population. This position is with the Kinship team. It involves providing outreach services to a population that often experiences barriers to typical mental health services. The incumbent provides supervision to students in formal clinical practicums. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

  • Min 1 yr postgrad recognized clinical exp in community mental health setting

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of mental health community resources.
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation
  • Ability to document in a concise and timely manner
  • Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values and traditions 
  • Can function independently & as member of interdisciplinary mental health team
  • Ability to manage a high demand caseload and other work assignments.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems
  • Ability to provide public education regarding children/youth mental health issues
  • Knowledge of normal child & adolescent development & psychopathology
  • Ability to identify, implement & evaluate areas of client difficulty
  • Knowledge in various intervention strategies for individuals and groups
  • Ability to design, initiate and conduct training for other professionals

Other Information

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a vehicle available for work.
  • Can work flexible hours; ability to work shifts based on operational needs.
  • Includes field hours and car allowance.
  • Must have current practicing registration with SASW.
