Job Description: Under the direction of a Program Manager and as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Social Worker provides a range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination services to a primarily child and youth mental health and addiction population. The incumbent provides supervision to students in formal clinical practicums.  This position is for the Complex Diagnosis Assessment Team.  "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Experience

  • Requires a minimum of one year (postgraduate) recent recognized experience in a community mental health setting working with children, youth and families presenting with acute and chronic mental health problems.

Education

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge in various intervention strategies for individuals and groups
  • Can function independently & as member of interdisciplinary mental health team
  • Ability to document in a concise and timely manner
  • Ability to design and conduct in-service training for other professionals
  • Ability to identify, implement & evaluate areas of client difficulty
  • Ability to provide public education regarding children/youth mental health issues
  • Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values and traditions 
  • Knowledge in normal child and adolescent development and psychopathology
  • Broad knowledge of mental health community resources.
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems
  • Ability to manage a high demand caseload and other work assignments.
