Job Description: Under the direction of a Program Manager and as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Social Worker provides a range of treatment and case coordination services to children and families impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder. The incumbent will assist with supporting families around child and adolescent development issues, parent networking, and transitions within the community and the school system. This person will also work closely with colleagues to develop parent programs and social opportunities for children, assist with development and delivery of groups, and liaise with external agencies that serve similar populations. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement". HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.

Education

  • Recognized Bachelor Degree in Social Work is required.

Experience

  • Requires a minimum of 1 year (postgraduate) recent recognized experience in a community mental health setting working with children and youth with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum disorder.  Experience working with other acute and chronic mental health problems in children and youth is an asset. Experience working with preschool children is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrates:

  • Knowledge of normal child and adolescent development and psychopathology including an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the impact of the disorder on the child and family.
  • Ability to identify, implement and evaluate areas of client difficulty across a wide range of clinical presentations and formulate evidence based intervention.
  • Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values and traditions and their impact on accessing mental health services.
  • Knowledge of a variety of intervention strategies (individual and group) for children/youth with mental health and addiction problems in a community setting, including, but not limited to: assessment, triage treatment and case management.
  • Ability to work in partnership within the community and possess a broad knowledge of community resources including treatment programs and support agencies.
  • Ability to design, initiate and conduct in service training for other professionals.
  • Ability to provide public education regarding children and youth and Autism.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary mental health team.
  • Ability to manage a high demand caseload and other work assignments.
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation that impacts the work of clinicians in a mental health setting.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal); Ability to document in a concise and timely manner.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems.
