Job Description: Within a multidisciplinary team, provides psychological assessment, consultation and mental health treatment to families whose children and/ or youth are suffering from a range of mental health disorders. Incumbent will participate in mental health promotion, prevention and consultation with community agencies. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Education

  • PhD in Clinical Psychology

  • Doctorate in Psychology.

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a psychologist by the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists, with Authorized Practice Endorsement.

  • Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a mental health setting working with children, youth and families presenting with acute mental health problems.

  • Experience in assessment and treatment techniques

  • Experience in family and group intervention modalities

  • Experience working in partnership with the community

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of normal child and adolescent development and psychopathology. Knowledge of family systems, and models for therapeutic intervention strategies appropriate to the treatment of child, adolescent mental health diagnoses and family problems.  Knowledge of interventions empirically validated or supported by best practice literature.

  • Experience in providing therapeutic intervention strategies appropriate to the treatment of child and adolescent mental health concerns and other family problems.  Demonstrated skill in conducting group and family treatment.

  • Knowledge of and experience utilizing standardized psychometric instruments and a wide range of measures typically used with children and youth.

  • Awareness of issues that impact the mental health of a multicultural population and an ability to incorporate appropriate cultural resources into a broader intervention plan.

  • Ability to develop and maintain consulting relationships within a multidisciplinary team, interagency programs and across the community of human services.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, and independently to manage complex and multiple demands.

  • Demonstrated skill in providing public education and inservice training related to the mental health of children, youth and their families.

  • Ability to manage a high risk, active caseload and demonstrated insight into managing personal stress resulting from this type of work.

  • Sound written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability and willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as required and maintain a valid driver’s license.
