Type: Part-time Permanent

Shift Information: 12-hour rotating shifts (overtime may be required)

Job Description: We are looking for compassionate, caring, and patient individuals with upbeat attitudes and strong interpersonal skills. Personal Care Workers at Elder Catherine Charles Long-Term Care Home operate in a fast-paced environment where residents’ needs change throughout the day. Working 12-hour shifts with a rotating schedule, Personal Care Workers support and supervise individuals with physical abilities; use a team approach to plan, organize and supervise daily activities; prepare and serve meals as planned; administer prescribed medications.

Elder Catherine Charles Long-term Care Home is responsible for the provision of quality care to clients by providing personal care and respite assistance to clients based on their assessed needs. This is a 24 - hour, 365 days’ facility that provides level 1, 2 and 3 care to residents admitted into the facility. The main goals are to provide direct care and monitor residents’ health conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and supervise elderly individuals
  • Use a team approach to plan, organize, and supervise daily activities, recreational and other services
  • Prepare and serve meals as planned
  • Assess needs of residents on an ongoing basis
  • Maintain sanitation of the Long-Term Care Home
  • Work 12-hour rotating shifts (overtime may be required)
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Experience:

  • Previous home care or childcare experience is an asset
  • Experience working with First Nations communities is an asset

Education:

  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Continuing Care Aide Certificate, Personal Care Worker Certificate, or Home Health Aide Certificate (required)

Licenses:

  • Certified First Aid & CPR and Safe Food Handling Certificate (required or willing to obtain)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Competencies:

  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Ability to speak/understand Cree is a definite asset

Other Information

  • A current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Screening and Driver’s Abstract is required upon
    hire. Since this position is engaged primarily in serving the interests of Aboriginal people, Lac La Ronge Indian Band
