Job Description: As a member of the interprofessional Resource Team for Geriatric Services, Long Term Care Service Line, this Sr. Occupational Therapist position is based in the Regina area. The position reports directly to the Director, Geriatric Services. The Sr. Occupational Therapist is responsible for responding to referral requests and providing community-based consultative service to clients throughout southern Saskatchewan. Clients may be assessed by the Sr. Occupational Therapist both in their community environment and in the outpatient clinic at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Education

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Occupational Therapy from a program which is recognized by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Must be licensed by the Saskatchewan Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Must have three years related clinical experience in the specialty area.
  • Requires certification for life support.
  • PIECES and GPA training is an asset.

  • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skill, and clinical competence in the support of adults over 65 who have complex needs.
  • Demonstrate a high level of competence in the delivery of evidence based Occupational Therapy interventions in older person care and demonstrate a special interest in this clinical area.
  • Demonstrate a high level of competence and understanding of the Occupational Therapy process and its application to the role of the Occupational Therapist in a care of the older person setting.
  • Be able to apply expert knowledge and understanding in the management of patients with complex conditions associated with aging and care of older person, to recognize and address current and prospective clinical issues and support adaptive coping to changing levels of occupational performance.
  • Demonstrate expertise in enabling individuals to identify meaningful occupations in which they want to engage and adapting these activities to support and promote continued engagement and quality of life.
  • Be able to facilitate discharge planning, carrying out in depth functional and risk assessments to facilitate discharge to preferred place of care whilst recognizing the complexities and challenges for individuals, families and carers.
  • Be able to demonstrate and apply previous experience of research and audit at either undergraduate, postgraduate level or in the work environment.
  • Demonstrate evidence of and commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Demonstrate a level of competency in IT skills relevant to the position.
  • Strong use of initiative.
  • Demonstrates an ability to evaluate, audit and review practice.
  • Provides a flexible service that is responsive to the need of the patient / resident.
  • Identifies and prioritizes the requirements of change within own service area, bearing in mind the departmental impact.
  • Utilizes research and best practice.
