Job Description: Under the Direction of a Manager and as part of the interdisciplinary Community Recovery Team (CRT), the Occupational Therapist Degree Senior provides a complex range of assessment and treatment services to a community mental health and addictions population. The incumbent provides program consultation and co-ordination, evaluation of clinical interventions, supervision of the Peer Support Mentorship program, preceptors students in formal clinical practicums, and provides professional and public education regarding mental health and addictions concerns as related to occupational therapy. As a senior practitioner, the incumbent acts as a resource for other professionals in the community. The Community Recovery Team (CRT), based out of the Regina Mental Health Clinic, is part of a grouping of programs in the Mental Health and Addiction service line working together to serve a population with severe and persistent mental health and addiction concerns. In addition to the clients served by the team in general, the incumbent also receives referrals from community psychiatrists and associated programs involved with the care and treatment of this complex population and provides assessment, direct occupational therapy services and/or treatment plans, and consultation to these and other stakeholders.

Education

  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Society of Occupational Therapist.

Experience

  • Three years (postgraduate) recognized experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience with an adult mental health and/or addictions population is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of a variety of mental health disorders and interventions required to enable clients to sustain stability.
  • Knowledge of a variety of addiction and harm reduction strategies and interventions required to enable clients to sustain stability. 
  • Demonstrated high level of clinical/occupational therapy related assessment skills, case planning, consultation and supervision skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources is essential.
  • Considerable work experience with mental health and addictions populations.
  • Able to work independently and in a self-motivated manner, ability to respond under pressure. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and other agencies in the community. 
  • Demonstrated cultural competency skills. 
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act. 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, workload management and administration skills. 
  • Excellent consultation and public relation skills with the ability to maintain effective work relationships. 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal competence, including effective problem solving, decision-making and conflict resolution skills. 
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data in a computer database system

  • Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement.  HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.
