Job Description: The Nurse Practitioner, as part of Pediatric Subspecialty Programs - Gastroenterology focused, is an advanced practice nurse with knowledge and skills gained through additional education and experience specializing in pediatrics (ages 0 - 17 years). The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner blends an in-depth knowledge of advanced health assessment and diagnosis, therapeutic management with the legal authority and autonomy to order diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform specific procedures in the management and treatment of common acute pediatric illnesses and stable chronic conditions. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner practices within a framework of evidence-based practice, health promotion, and disease and injury prevention. The practice involves building partnerships with individuals, families, and communities, including supporting inter-professional collaboration and continuous improvements through evaluative processes/projects. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is prepared with the necessary competencies to practice in health care environments that assess and treat patients with acute and complex care needs, ranging from common to complex patients with medical co-morbidities.

Education
- Master's Degree in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner with evidence of specialization in
pediatric advance practice nursing.
Other Education and Training
- Health Care Provider CPR and/or current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life
Support.
Experience
- Five (5), full-time years experience as a Registered Nurse required.
- Three (3) full-time years recent experience working in a pediatric area with children with
acute and chronic conditions, along with a focus on pediatric primary care.

- Ability to be flexible and willing to change
- Knowledge and skills necessary for the health assessment, diagnosis & care of pediatric
patients of all ages and developmental levels with gastrointestinal chronic health issues.
Such skills include, but are not limited to, the recognition and management of the
critically ill or injured child, appropriate use and interpretation of ancillary tests, use of
appropriate medications and therapeutic measures, and disposition. - Knowledge of leadership strategies in order to lead, encourage, advise and collaborate
with families to achieve client/patient, team and organizational goals within available
resources. - Knowledge of social determinants and resource evaluation into health assessment and
management plan.
