Job Description: The Public Health Nurse (PHN), as an integral member of the Public Health Services team, provides nursing services within the framework of the Population Health Promotion Model and Primary Health Care. The Public Health Nurse translates knowledge from the health and social sciences to support health-enhancing behaviors of individuals, families and population groups through targeted interventions, programs, and advocacy.  Inherent in this role are knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to health promotion, prevention, and protection.   This employee works relatively independently and is expected to make decisions based on sound assessments in accordance with The Public Health Act, the policies of the Public Health Nursing program, the CRNS Standards of Practice, the Canadian Community Health Nursing Standards of Practice, and other relevant legislation.  This employee liaises with, and refers to, other health personnel, and other sectors and community groups.  The Public Health Nurse works within guidelines established by policy to plan, organize, implement and evaluate nursing programs in an assigned area.

Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year Public Health Nursing experience is an asset.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

Licenses

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Registered Nurse (RN)

Other Education and Training

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS)
  • Public Health Nursing credits during post secondary education

  • Possession of a personal vehicle suitable for use in the performance of duties
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Must have valid driver's license and own vehicle.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with courses in public health nursing is required. 
  • Possession of a valid CPR Basic Life Support Level C certificate   
  • Successful candidate may start earlier if they already have recent public health experience.
