Job Summary
In an environment that supports continuous quality improvement and under the supervision of the Communicable Diseases/Sexual Health/Street Program Supervisor, this employee provides Public Health STD Clinic services to the community. The employee is expected to make decisions made on sound assessments, according to accepted policies and standards of the Communicable Disease/Sexual Health Program.
Education
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with course credits in Public Health Nursing. Possession of and ability to maintain a registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association. Possession of current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and ability to provide first aid in emergency situations. Will be required to successfully complete certification in sexually transmitted diseases. Will be required to successfully complete certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
Experience
Minimum of one year related experience in sexually transmitted diseases, obtained in a clinical setting or through contact tracing. Relevant work experience in an infectious disease clinic, or harm reduction program working with high risk behaviors clients for a minimum of one year would be acceptable. Strong knowledge of prevention, transmission and treatment of communicable diseases, particularly of sexually transmitted and blood borne diseases is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good knowledge of principles, techniques and practices governing public health nursing. Good knowledge of needs of healthy and unwell individuals. Knowledge of immunization principles, procedures, requirements and scheduling, and reactions to vaccine. Knowledge of communicable disease surveillance programs and principles of related disease control. Knowledge of public health laws and regulations and Population & Public Health Services policies relating to the control of communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases. Ability to deal tactfully, non-judgmentally and effectively with a wide variety of clients. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agencies, physicians, co-workers and clients. Ability to perform technical nursing duties with skill and competence on site, and at outreach clinics, such as at the Regina Provincial Correctional Center. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality. Ability to make mature judgments of human behavior and to make decisions. Ability to plan and carry out duties with a minimum of supervision. Basic knowledge of epidemiology and epidemiological approaches to communicable disease control. Knowledge of family planning, methods and counseling. Knowledge of community health and social resources. Ability to practice effective communication skills, written and oral. Ability to provide first aid in emergency situations. Ability to be flexible and adaptable. Skill in maintaining and promotion health practices through effective contacts with physicians, school students, parents, senior citizens, professional groups and community organizations. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relations as necessitated by work assignments.

- This is a community based position providing services in clinic within the Primary Health Care Networks (Regina). Home base for this position is: 2110 Hamilton Street.
- Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license. A shared vehicle is supplied for work related travel.
- Staff may be required to work in the evenings as well as on weekends.
- Scheduled hours of work may be reduced (if applicable) during the rotation stipulated when a statutory holiday is recognized during that period.
