Job Summary

The incumbent will be working as part of a Consultation Liaison Team.   Within this collaborative interdisciplinary team model, the incumbent will provide direct consultation and support to individuals who have mental health and addiction issues within a hospital setting.  The incumbent is responsible to assist with triaging and providing nursing support to clients with mental health and addiction issues in a hospital setting.  The incumbent will develop strong service relationships with the physicians, health care providers, addiction counselors, and social workers.  This incumbent will integrate their experience, skills and knowledge from nursing theory and principles of physical health, mental health and addictions in the provision and management of direct client/patient/resident care, assessment of needs, interdisciplinary team planning and consultation, follow-up after discharge and education of client/patient/resident, as well as formal and informal caregivers and health care students.

Education

Graduate from an approved school of nursing.  Active registration with Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS) or College of Registered Nurses of 
Saskatchewan (CRNA);  Current PART and BCLS certification required.

Experience

Two years' experience in Inpatient Mental Health Services required, which specifically includes clinical expertise in assessment and treatment planning for individuals with major 
mental health disorders, and substance abuse and detoxification issues.

Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.  Demonstrates critical thinking, ability to problem-solving utilizing conflict resolution skills and decision-making abilities.  Demonstrates self-direction.  Demonstrates ability to delegate.  Demonstrates ability to apply the Mental Health Act in a case management approach.  Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to implement a Solution Focused approach to case management.  Demonstrates ability to accept and implement change.  Demonstrates ability to work as a team member and the ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal/consultative relationships.  Demonstrates ability to facilitate the implementation, evaluation and ongoing design of the current care model.  Demonstrates excellent knowledge of the mental health needs of adults and their families, and a practical application of a broad range of clinical interventions.
