Job Description: Reporting to the Team Lead/Manager, the Health Educator plays a crucial role in the development of health care plans and ensures the inclusion of social, psychological, emotional and physical health of First Nations and Métis patients. The Educator will provide individuals, families, and groups with the psychosocial support needed to cope with chronic, acute, or terminal illnesses. Services include: advising family members, providing patient education and support, and making referrals to appropriate services. The Educator may also provide care; case management or interventions designed to promote health, support cultural/traditional practices, and address barriers to access healthcare. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Education

  • A recognized health degree (Social Work, Registered Nursing, M.A. Psychology) and registration with appropriate licensing body.
 
Experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are fluent in Indigenous languages common to the region. 
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
 
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical skills, knowledge, and abilities required for competent case management practice. 
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, displaying professional maturity and leadership in clinical practice. 
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to professional development and ongoing learning for self and others. 
  • Excellent communication, writing, presentation and interpersonal skills.  Crisis management, suicide intervention and diffusion skills.  Strong listening, specific counseling and assessment skills. 
  • Knowledge of all levels of government (federal, provincial, municipal, First Nations and Métis) and the services they provide in relation to jurisdictional responsibility.  Understanding of Ministry of Social Services policies, procedures, regulations and plan manual.  Knowledge of Non-Insured Health Benefits and Jordan's Principle.

  • This position will be located at the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) in Regina
  • Preference to candidates who are fluent in Indigenous languages to the region.
  • HSAS seniority in the SHA will be considered under the selection criteria
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a vehicle available for work.
  • Registered/eligible for registration with the appropriate licensing body
