Job Description: Under the general supervision of the Head Cook/Coordinator or designated supervisor, the Enriched Living Aide performs cooking duties; prepares food for service; ensures personal educational needs are met, performs general duties in accordance with facility policy, procedures and work routines in a safe, efficient and courteous manner. Promotes and assists in the development of an atmosphere which enhances socialization and promotes companionship; allows individuals to have choices in dietary preference when this is reasonably possible.

Responsibilities:

Performs cooking duties by:

  • cooking meats, soups, vegetables and starch items;
  • baking cakes, cookies, and pies;
  • preparing sauces, gravies, salads and desserts; and
  • preparing breakfast items.

Prepares food for service by:

  • grinding and pureeing food items for medically altered diets;
  • measuring and weighing ingredients;
  • pre‑preparing food items for cooking; and

Cleaning Duties

  • cleans, sanitizes/disinfects all areas, equipment and floors according to established procedures.
  • cleans sinks, toilets, showers, bathtubs, mirrors, and shelving.
  • cleans cupboards, doorknobs, handrails, light switches, counters, garbage cans, and fridges
  • maintains floors - dry/wet mop

Ensures personal educational needs are met by:

  • attending staff development programs and In-services in order to increase personal knowledge and abilities and maintain competency in carrying out assigned tasks;
  • participating in fire drills; and
  • having a working knowledge of fire and disaster procedures;
  • maintaining a working knowledge of the WHMIS and other safety programs.

Performs general duties which include:

  • maintaining confidentiality of information contained in resident records and all    knowledge concerning residents;
  • being alert for potential health and safety hazards to residents and staff and reporting observations to supervisor and/or occupational health and safety committee. When appropriate the hazard should be removed or area secured immediately;
  • organizing and prioritizing work plans;
  • adapting to varying circumstances in the environment;
  • answering phones courteously and recording and relaying messages accurately and in a   timely manner;
  • participating as a team member by offering and accepting assistance;
  • maintaining a good working relationship with all staff;
  • assist with tasks of other classifications as directed;
  • working within and promoting the Mission, Goals, Philosophies, Policies and Objectives of Bethany Pioneer Village Inc.; and
  • performing other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Grade 10

Experience:

  • Sufficient experience to fulfill the responsibilities of the position

Other Education and Training:

  • Food Safe Certificate

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, write, and provide clear written/verbal reports
  • Empathy and compassion for residents

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to providing Christian-centered care

Additional Comment 
  • No guaranteed hours. Must be Available a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours per 3 week period. Must be available all shifts, short shifts, short notice calls, stats and holidays, where applicable
