The CIRN uses advanced communication and leadership skills, advanced problem-solving techniques and the application of nursing and family theories to resolve both patient and program problems and concerns. The CIRN will be cognizant of patient care and safety issues and work with leadership and staff to resolve those issues.

The CIRN collaborates with IMS providing relevant nursing clinical knowledge and information related to the support, implementation, management and selection of Clinical Management Systems (CMS).  The CIRN collaborates with IMS, other clinical care teams, and providers to develop appropriate training content for CMS user groups as well as coordinate staff education. The CIRN provides the STOPS department technical training in the CMS for super-users, trainers and front-line staff.

The CIRN must be familiar with the clinical operations, concepts, processes, and workflows related to patient care and may advise clinical care team members and providers on how to use the CMS applications effectively to meet their needs. The CIRN will rely on their extensive experience and judgment to help plan and accomplish provincial goals related to the CMS.
