Job Description: Under the direction of the Manager of the Youth Mental Health and Addictions team, and the Youth Addictions Supervisor, the Clinical Addictions Counsellor Youth provides ongoing assessment, counselling, case management, to youth struggling with substance use and their families. In addition the Clinical Addictions Counsellor Youth identifies and treats the effects of substance use of the youth and the family system as a whole. Using the skills and knowledge required for this position, the counsellor works with youth and parents to provide comprehensive evidence based treatment plan. The Youth Addictions Counsellor provides individual, group and family parent counselling. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

  • Supervised clinical practicum experience with youth/families

Education

  • Degree in Addiction Counseling

Memberships

  • Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF)

  • Basic - Assessment skills
  • Basic - Counseling skills
  • Basic - Facilitation skills

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge in evidence-informed counselling to clients dealing with substance use
  • Ability to treat effects of substance use on an adolescent and family unit
  • Ability to facilitate individual and group counselling with youth and parents
  • Knowledge in Motivational Assessment Process
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Service's Act
  • Knowledge in applicable Acts
  • Ability to assess and treat clients as a part of the interdisciplinary MHAS team
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge in adolescent development
  • Ability to provide assessment and adapt to change within the family system
  • Knowledge of the Youth Detox and Stabilization Act
  • Knowledge of HIPA
