Job Description: As a member of the Community Recovery Services and under the general direction of the Manager of CRS the primary goal will be to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of youth, young adults and adults with severe and persistent mental illness, seeking help for addiction and/or addiction related issues. Responsibilities include assessment & screening, individual & group counseling, case management & educational sessions.

Education

  • Bachelor of Chemical Dependency or Addiction Counseling, OR
  • Another Baccalaureate discipline (generally Social Sciences or Human Services) acceptable to the Employer as well as demonstrated knowledge and competence in clinically assessing individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness and addiction issues.

Experience

  • One year experience working with a concurrent disorder population in a community setting.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills.
  • A strong knowledge of the disease of addictions and/or addiction related issues and the effects on the individuals, family unit and community.
  • A strong knowledge of the Developmental Model of Recovery; the Saskatchewan Model of Recovery Services; the Motivational Assessment Process.
  • Ability to accurately assess addictions and/or addiction related issues and make appropriate recovery plans and referrals.
  • Broad knowledge of severe and persistent mental illness and community outpatient service delivery systems. Familiarity with community programs and resources required for psycho-social rehabilitation.
  • Individual, group and crisis management/stabilization counselling skills.
  • Ability to promote healthy lifestyles in urban and rural settings and with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.

  • Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement.  HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.
