Job Description: The purpose of this position is to provide a substance management program for youth within the criminal justice system. The incumbent will navigate the demands of providing substance management services in young offender custody facilities and community placements. The incumbent will be expected to work as a member the Young Offender Program team within Mental Health & Addiction Services (MHAS). The incumbent will develop assessment, treatment and consultation services, within a youth forensic milieu, that focus on substance management issues. The incumbent will use the Biopsychosocial and Transtheoretical Model of Change frameworks to carry out substance abuse/addiction assessments in preparing reports that may be submitted to youth court and/or to other agencies. The incumbent may testify in court on their assessments. This position will be supervised by the Senior MSW of the Young Offender Program. The position will report to the Manager, Youth Resource Centre, MHAS. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Experience

  • Two years experience with substance management services within forensic settings

Education

  • Bachelor of Chemical Dependency

Other Education and Training

  • Completed social sciences or human services discipline acceptable to employer

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge in Transtheoretical Model, developing youth interventions/case plans
  • Ability to work independently and with broader interdisciplinary teams

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Ability to prepare formal reports for youth involved in criminal just system
  • Ability to support case management for youth involved in criminal justice system
  • Knowledge of the Saskatchewan Mental Health Act
  • Knowledge in program development and implementation
  • Knowledge in biopsychosocial model of addiction services
  • Ability to work in health (e.g. MHAS) and forensic service environments
  • Ability to provide consultation to institutional and community agencies
  • Knowledge of Youth Criminal Justice Act
  • Knowledge in providing substance abuse treatment services
  • Knowledge of substance management services within context of forensic setting
