Description
The Social Worker carries an assigned caseload of children, youth and their families. The Social Worker conducts mental health assessments, participates in case management and delivers psychoeducational and evidence-based interventions as treatment to individuals, families and groups. Modalities may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), family therapy, and caregiver/family management training. The Social Worker is responsible to ensure care is coordinated by participating in clinical and administrative meetings both internal in the program and hospital as well as externally with other hospitals, schools and community-based mental health providers. The Social Worker contributes to new and ongoing research and quality assurance projects. The Social Worker may provide education to the public and other professionals on issues relevant to the field of child and youth mental health. The Social Worker may also be expected to provide field education to social work students.
- Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work.
2. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
3. Specific training in the following evidence-based interventions: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy.
4. Minimum of three (3) years recent experience in a pediatric mental , behavioural, or developmental health setting providing full courses of treatment.
5. Minimum of three (3) years experience in the provision of evidence-based modalities (i.e., Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing) within a pediatric mental health population.
6. Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act.
7. Demonstrated expertise and experience in conducting comprehensive risk assessments and engaging in crisis intervention with children, adolescents, and families.
8. Expert knowledge of local and regional community-based resources to aid with assessment, transition planning, and discharge.
9. Experience triaging new referrals.
10. Demonstrated proficiency in report writing related to assessment, consultation and treatment.
11. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
12. Problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
13. Ability to work independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team.
14. Fluency in French is considered an asset.
15. Must be able to obtain a valid Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSS).
