Unit Summary

Authorizing Mechanisms, Policy & Document Management (AMPDM) is an integral part of Chief Nursing and Supporting Services Programs portfolio which supports professional practice across HHS by ensuring the appropriate practice standards, education, processes, systems and structures are in place. The portfolio fosters the community, regulatory bodies and academic linkages necessary to develop and sustain a quality practice environment. 
As part of the Chief Nursing and Supporting Services Programs; AMPDM supports HHS staff with their education, professional development and practice needs.  Services provided include staff education and development, patient education, student education coordination, computer systems education libraries, the office of Policy and Document Management and Emergency Preparedness

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of AMPDM, the Policy & Procedure Specialist provides the leadership, facilitation & consultation necessary for the development, integration, review, revision and archiving of policies, procedures and supporting documents for the Corporation, Programs, Services and Professions. The Specialist is responsible to ensure these documents are processed through the appropriate channels for consultation and approval for consistent and safe practice, and alignment with legislation, accreditation and professional and HHS standards. The Specialist will provide support to the ongoing maintenance and required evolution of the electronic Policy Library.  The Specialist will participate in the development, updating of and delivering educational programming to staff related to policy development and review.  This educational programming is in conjunction with the Centre for People Development.

Qualifications

1. Baccalaureate degree in a health care or other related field, Masters preferred
2. Current registration with a relevant professional association or governing body as a health care professional
3. Demonstrated experience in development, writing, formatting and approval process to move policies, procedures, authorizing mechanisms and other documents through the system from development/revision, consultation & approval.
4. Knowledge of HHS organizational structure, policies, procedures and Policy Library
5. 3 years current experience in a health care setting
6. Demonstrated leadership skills (informal/formal)
7. Self-directed with ability to prioritize workload, from among many, many different priorities while still attending to details
8. Ability to work both independently & in a team environment
9. Computer experience with proficiency in Policy Library use and related computer programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, Visio, Flash, Adobe) an asset
10. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication (e.g. grammar, proof-reading, editing) and presentation skills
11. Demonstrated experience working with multiple projects and in group facilitation
12. Demonstrated skills in conflict management & problem solving
