Description
This posting is a combined role with the successful applicant’s time split between the Adult Complex Seating & Wheelchair Clinic and the Regional Rehabilitation Comprehensive Spasticity Management Clinic.
The Seating and Wheelchair Clinic provides expert assessment and guidance for adults who require complex seating systems. Patients seen in this clinic are living with long term neurological conditions.
The Spasticity Management Clinic is a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic involving physiatry, registered Nursing, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy. This program provides treatment for patients with chronic upper and lower spasticity secondary to a variety of neurological conditions.
- Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Graduate of an approved School of Occupational Therapy
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience, within the last 5 years, in the management of rehabilitation patients including those with Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury, Acquired Brain Injury and other diagnosis including those who acquired and congenital complex postural support and mobility issues.
- Self-directed, flexible, independent practitioner who is also able to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience (within the last 5 years), in the ability to apply well-developed critical thinking and reasoning skills in the delivery of assessment and management techniques for evaluating and addressing the needs of adults with complex seating and mobility needs while following established ISO and RESNA standards.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, including, strong communication skills, with demonstrated ability to provide direction to all members of the client care team to achieve a successful resolution
- Well-developed patient and family-centred approach to care, to ensure a holistic approach to addressing complex seating and mobility needs
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the provision of evidence-based occupational therapy practice
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholder groups including clients, families, support staff/caregivers, community partners, management teams and other members within the circle of care
- Demonstrated knowledge of patient safety procedures/protocols with the ability to apply this knowledge in multiple settings
- Demonstrated ability to perform repetitive bending, reaching, pushing, lifting and transferring techniques using appropriate body mechanics
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to supporting student educational opportunities, as well as participating in continuing professional development opportunities, professional practice and program committees and initiatives that support patient care, clinical practice, education and research as approved by Clinical Manager in conjunction with the Chief of Occupational Therapy Practice
- Registered as an authorizer in good standing with the Assistive Devices Program of Ontario with demonstrated experience in assisting clients to obtain essential equipment with funding from various community agencies.
