Description
The NURSE PRACTITIONER (NP) for the sarcoma disease site team will provide leadership and promote excellence in clinical practice within an outpatient cancer care setting. The NP will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary sarcoma team which includes surgical oncologists, orthopedic surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, specialized primary nurses, pathologists, radiation therapists, physicists, radiologists and dedicated support staff to ensure a coordinated evidence based approach to care.
Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team members, and using a patient and family centered model of care, the NP works autonomously to provide direct patient care and to coordinate complex care for patients with soft tissue or bone tumors, suspected sarcoma. The focus of clinical practice will be workup of patients either with partial or incomplete evaluations (imaging, biopsies), patient assessment, treatment and symptom management planning, as well as care coordination for patients not seen yet to coordinate ancillary testing, referrals and admission to hospital if needed. The NP will run a weekly Sarcoma NP clinic.
The NP will play a leadership role, in close collaboration with key stakeholders, to develop a standard approach to assessing, managing and evaluating high problem/complex symptom management issues within the sarcoma patient population. Quality improvement initiatives will be a focus. Other non-clinical activities will include education, leadership and research to further develop and strengthen nursing practice and the profession. Dedicated non-clinical time will be provided each month to support the academic, leadership and research domains of the NP role.
This is an exciting opportunity for an NP passionate about oncology to lead and shape a specialized sarcoma service within a collaborative and innovative healthcare environment. The NP reports to the Director of JCC Integrated Cancer Treatment Services and the Chief of Interprofessional Practice.
