Medical Laboratory Assistant

Under supervision and direction, responsible for the proper processing of appropriate specimens for laboratory testing on inpatients and outpatients. Performs a variety of laboratory tasks, including but not exclusive to specimen reception, sorting and labeling, data entry, answering phone inquiries and providing customer service to resolve issues, specimen preparation, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, preparation of laboratory supplies and reagents, general laboratory housekeeping, monitoring and receiving inventory and other duties as assigned according to training and scope of practice. Assists the Medical Laboratory Technologists in various sections within the Department of Laboratory Medicine.

1. Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent
2. OSMT or CSMLS Certification as a Medical Laboratory Assistant
3. Recent experience in Clinical Chemistry and Immunology
4. Experience in receiving and handling laboratory specimens
5. Data entry and order entry skills in EPIC
7. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
