Reporting to the Clinical Manager of the Colposcopy and Cancer Genetics clinic, the Lead Genetic Counsellor leads quality improvement initiatives related to the provision of genetic counselling services by acting as a professional practice leader, leading discussion of updates to medical management guidelines, assisting in the coordination of genetic counselling clinic staff, monitoring and maintaining of referral/patient flow, and acting as a clinical resource for addressing urgent clinical issues.  The Lead Genetic Counsellor contributes to academics, research, and supports oncology and genetics system innovation and advancement.  In addition, the Lead Genetic Counsellor is a health professional and provides clinical care including genetic risk assessment, coordination of genetic testing, result interpretation, and communication of genetic results/diagnoses.


Qualifications

1. Master’s Degree from an (ABGC) accredited Genetic Counselling Program.
2. Maintenance of professional certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) and/or Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling - Conseil Canadien de Conseil Génétique (CBGC - CCCG).
3. Minimum of 5 years’ clinical practice in genetic counselling required, preference to candidates with experience in the practice of cancer genetic counselling 
4. Proven ability to assess and communicate complex genetic and cancer risk information to individuals and families while demonstrating a commitment to equitable and person-centred care
5. Experience in clinical supervision, mentorship, or evaluation of master’s level genetic counselling students, residents, fellows, and other health care trainee’s  (1 year experience required)
6. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in practice leadership: providing clinical guidance to colleagues, supporting patient care initiatives, and thorough knowledge of standards of practice and health systems 
7. Proven ability to lead or support research projects (2 years’ experience preferred)
8. Demonstrated ability to implement evidence and research findings in clinical practice
9. Strong commitment and understanding of evidence-based practice, continuous quality improvement, and performance measurement to promote innovation and meaningful change
10. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of clinical/support staff, patients, and their families and support persons 
11. Aptitude for health systems thinking and an in-depth understanding of clinical cancer genetics service delivery in Ontario
12. Strong organizational, analytical, and collaboration skills
13. Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
14. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer software such as MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and electronic health record systems.
