Director, Legal Services

Reporting to the Vice President, Legal Services and General Counsel, the Director, Legal services position will ensure the department is viewed as a strategic business partner to the Board of Directors and to the organization. The Director, Legal Services will provide advice and support on a variety of legal matters, including contracts, policies, governance, health law, litigation oversight and regulatory matters.  The role will provide additional leadership to the Legal Services team.

1. Law Degree (LLB) from a recognized law school
2. Call to the Ontario Bar (Lawyer Licensed to Practice in Ontario)
3. Minimum 7-10 years of related legal experience in Health Law
4. Experience in Contract and Commercial Law an asset 
5. Demonstrated working experience in providing risk management and strategic legal advice
6. Demonstrated working experience in the health care sector, provincial ministries or other in house experience an asset
7. Knowledge of Insurance products, market & processes
8. Expert knowledge as to litigation process, administrative law processes and dispute resolution
9. Demonstrated initiative, independent thinking, conflict resolution and creative problem solving skills
10. Highly developed influencing skills for negotiation both internally and with external partners
11. Effective collaboration and team work
12. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
13. Strong communication skills – written, verbal, presentation
14. Strong leadership skills
15. High level of integrity and trust
