The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will support the adult inpatient medicine program at the Juravinski Hospital.

The Medicine Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) uses in-depth knowledge, skill , judgment and clinical experience to provide advanced specialized care to patients and their families. In collaboration with the patient, family,  physicians and interdisciplinary team, the CNS participates in the plan of care for complex Medicine patients. This role provides leadership in the: development and implementation of: basic and advanced educational  programs for all clients, clinical guidelines, protocols, policy and the promotion and use of evidence in practice. The CNS  is an expert coach for staff and initiates opportunities for growth and development through projects (e.g. NGG reinvestment projects). This role functions within all aspects of the 5 domains of CNS practice, including:  practice, education, research, consultation, and leadership. The CNS contributes to overall quality of care, and system  change through education, research, and internal and external consultation and leadership.


Qualifications

1.Current Certification of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
2. Master's degree in Nursing 
3. Three to five years recent acute inpatient clinical expertise in Oncology, Medicine and Palliative Care 
4. Superior writing skills as demonstrated through report writing and/or publications 
5. Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills 
6. Demonstrated ability to work in a consultative role with members of the multi-disciplinary team and to promote professional development 
7. Demonstrated ability to utilize information technology (i.e.: Excel, Word, and Outlook 
8. Experience in developing and implementing strategies to prevent functional decline of patients 
9. Demonstrated expertise in enhancing the care of the medicine patient within an acute environment 
10. Demonstrated ability to lead and evaluate quality improvement initiatives 
11. Demonstrated ability to conduct research or translate research into practice to promote evidence-based practice for interprofessional teams 
12. Eligible for Faculty appointment 
13. Membership in provincial, federal or international professional associations e.g. RNAO, CANO
