Job Description

  • Coordinates the day to day management and operational activities of the OR and APU in collaboration with the perioperative team to ensure timely access to care and adherence to the OR/APU Rules & Regulations
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues internal and external to the program to facilitate safe and timely patient flow
  • Works in partnership with the PCM to create a safe, evidence-based clinical environment for the perioperative team
  • Responsible for scheduling for the department and the daily staffing assignment, and monitors the master schedule to ensure adequate coverage of the department
  • Promotes the use of evidence based and best practice in collaboration with the PPC OR/PACU units
  • Facilitates the learning needs of staff in collaboration with the PPC OR/PACU
  • Participates in ongoing monitoring of quality indicators and identifying improvement strategies in consultation with the PCM
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the management of human and material resources
  • Assists the PCM with staff recruitment and the performance appraisal process
  • Member of the OR Executive and Surgical Care Committees
  • Represents the OR at formal and informal committees in consultation with the PCM
  • Accepts and completes projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurse of Ontario required
  • Current BCLS Certification required
  • Perioperative Certification required
  • BScN an asset
  • 5 - 7 years current OR experience
  • Previous OR charge nurse experience an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills - oral and written
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and leadership abilities
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence with an ability to support and lead others
  • Demonstrated excellence in change management
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in conflict prevention and resolution
  • Evidence of commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate change
  • Satisfactory attendance and employment record

Additional Information

Hours: Monday to Friday; Days (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary: $39.07 to $56.00 per hour
