Working within the Inpatient Paediatric Unit, the Child and Youth Worker (CYW) will collaborate on treatment plans and provide support to hospitalized patients and families.
Specifically, the initial assignment will see the CYW work closely with hospitalized youth with eating disorders and their families to help meet food intake goals, provide support and guidance during meal times and contribute to treatment plans for care beyond medical stabilization. The CYW may also work with youth to help support patients and families as they work towards developing and meeting mental health goals.
The CYW will work closely with Paediatricians, Child Psychiatrists, Social Workers and Nurses to ensure that progress or delay in treatment is articulated to ensure a seamless transition between teams.
- CYW certificate and diploma or degree from a recognized community college or university.
- 3-5 years of child and adolescent experience preferably in the hospital setting
- Must have knowledge of children's psycho-social development
- Knowledge about or interest in paediatric eating disorders would be an asset
- Able to work independently and effectively within a team
- Must have competency in assessing risk issues and being able to address concerns within the community
- Experience in working with high conflict families and the skill set in deescalating conflict
- Understanding of the school system and support within the Halton community
- Must have computer skills (Word Processing)
- Satisfactory employment and good attendance record
2 Positions
Hours: Monday to Sunday, 12 hour shifts, (hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $35.86 to $43.81 per hour
