ABOUT THE POSITION: We are seeking applications to join our team of substitute teachers!
ABOUT GRASSLANDS PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Grasslands is a public school division serving the City of Brooks and surrounding County of Newell, with a student population of about 3,577. We have three elementary school locations within the City of Brooks and seven rural locations throughout the County of Newell in addition to seven colony school locations.

Substitute Teachers are essential to our students first values. We are committed to providing a great experience so that we can continue to achieve this goal and grow success for the future.
Job Duties:
- provide a stimulating learning environment and delivery of course material so each student can experience growth and develop to their potential;
- provide an educational environment based on the values of diversity, equality and inclusion;
- identify students individual and collective learning needs for their age and grade;
- deliver approved curriculum instruction in accordance with student learning and special needs;
- provide direct support and/or intervention as required to maximize student learning achievement and well-being;
- meet and work with the multi-disciplinary team of student services professionals to discuss individual student needs and progress;
- ensure recommended personalized student resources and supports are implemented precisely to maximize student achievement and well-being;
- provide guidance and instructions to student support staff so they can understand and respond to individual student strengths and needs;
- use various assessment tools to evaluate and communicate student progress;
- meet with parents or guardians regarding the student’s learning status;
- attend meetings, seminars and in-service training sessions as required; and
- serve as role model for students.

- Strong instruction and classroom management skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Personal integrity and trustworthiness.
- Understanding of how educators impact the community.
- Able to quickly build trust, rapport and strong relationships with Grasslands students, parents, staff and our community partners.
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor of Education
pre-service teacher preparation program from an approved institution
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certification (or able to quickly obtain it)
Successful applicants will be required to submit before start date:
- Current Criminal Record Check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
Original document reported within the last 6 months of hire date; condition of employment
*Applicants cannot work before a clear CRC with VSC has been provided and approved*
