Guided by Good Spirit School Division’s foundational statements, the Database Administrator/Analyst is an integral part of the Technology Services Department. The role of a Database Administrator/Analyst involves a range of responsibilities aimed at supporting the Ministry and Division in achieving their requirements.

The duties of a Database Administrator are as follows:

The role of a Database Administrator involves a range of responsibilities aimed at supporting the Ministry and Division in achieving their requirements. These responsibilities encompass defining, developing, testing, analyzing, and maintaining new software applications using various languages including PowerShell. The tasks include writing, coding, testing, and analyzing software programs and applications. Additionally, the Database Administrator conducts research, designs, documents, and modifies software specifications throughout the production life cycle.

Furthermore, the Database Administrator is responsible for managing various systems, such as student information (MSS), library (Destiny), assessment (Edsby), and student services (Clevr). This entails tasks such as reporting, testing, training, development, and maintenance of documentation. They also retrieve and analyze data, ensure quality control, and handle communications pertaining to student information systems. The primary goal is to ensure the accuracy of records for all students. To achieve the above, an in-depth knowledge of Power BI is crucial. The Database Administrator assists the Technology Manager in fulfilling the general and specific aspects of their work and will represent the Division in an ethical, positive, and professional manner. This position works toward four strategic focus and long-term goals: Student & Family; Internal Process; People Capacity and Financial Stewardship.

The successful candidate will have the desired knowledge & qualifications:

  • Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science, or equivalent experience.
  • Exceptionally strong computer skills.
  • Minimum three years, data entry and information systems or technology experience in a large and complex organization.
  • Experience in offering tech support is a definite asset.
  • Experience with Web Programming (PHP, SQL, HTML) is a definite asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and effectively manage high volumes of work.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently initiate and organize projects to achieve work process efficiencies. And ensure full utilization of information systems.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands and effectively manage time while being responsive to changing priorities.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills and be able to communicate professionally with administration and staff. Compile accurate, timely and detailed reports and information for Education Administration.
  • Ability to work with staff and provide appropriate information and support in a timely manner. Must work collaboratively with the Technology Manager and with other staff on a daily basis. Must have the ability to be a team player and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Have a positive and professional attitude towards others, their work, and the division and conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to an educational institute that provides services to children.
