Job DescriptionGeneral Motors is at the forefront of the transformation of automotive with the electrification of our portfolio and the development of leading-edge central compute and autonomous capabilities. Our electromagnetics simulation team is a dynamic, high-energy, and innovative group focused on design and commercialization of leading-edge silicon enabling the future of GM’s Ultifi platform.We are seeking a Hardware Developer in the electromagnetics simulation space to lead the creation and documentation of modeling plans to engineering team and initiation of new processes and tools. You will be responsible to create and execute Finite Element Analysis (FEA) plans for assigned projects. Participate in the creation of assigned subsystem Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models. Motivate CAE suppliers and internal resources to meet program milestones and deliverables. Perform and oversee resources for virtual assessment of designs and compare results to performance requirements. Initiate design solutions to resolve any performance issues with mass & cost efficiency.Hardware Engineers are a professional responsible for leading the development and design of electrical hardware. The role of the hardware engineer involves various key responsibilities: component requirements development, component design, component validation.ResponsibilitiesLead and support advanced technology projects that develop novel components, systems, and customer-centric features specifically in the RF modelling space.Develop project scope, deliverables, and timelines.Support a cross-functional team through a stage gate process to achieve the project milestones.Develop new and innovative concepts. Leverage internal expertise (global partners), and external knowledge (global supply base and academia).Complete proof of concept evaluations and validation.Qualifications - RequiredBS in Electrical Engineering / Electronics / Computer Science2+ years of engineering experience in electronic hardware design, development, and simulationFamiliarity with the fundamentals of antenna/radar/sensorsUnderstanding of electrical/communication/network systems/control systemsHigh level of interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturallyDemonstrated self-starter who can work independently and deal with ambiguity.Qualifications - PreferredMaster’s degree or PHD in electrical or electronics engineeringFamiliarity with CAD tools such as Spaceclaim, Hypermesh, or ANSA, for geometry modification and clean-upExperience in EMC/EMI modelling and simulation of EMC components and subsystems for automotive applications.Experience in Radar/Antenna/Sensor, RCS, and RF modeling and simulationProficient with EM software such as HFSS, FEKO, CST, Savant, Maxwell, JMAG, Q3D, EMCoS/EMC Studio, SPICEMechatronic control systems development including using MATLAB/Simulink, CarMaker and CarSim software packages.Experience programming in C, C++, or PythonExperience in wiring harness, motor, motor resolver modeling and simulationComplex power electronic and electrically controlled system development using Sabre, SimplorerProficient with CAE methodologies and common CAE tools including meshing software.Familiarity with circuit PCB design and layout toolsParticipation in Formula/Baja SAE, Formula Hybrid, EcoCar, AutoDrive or similar academic project in an electrical, mechatronics or controls capacityProduct lifecycle engineering experience from concept to productionExperience in Design Thinking and CreativityThis role is categorized as hybrid.
