Detailed Overview
Reporting to the Site Coordinator, Medical Imaging, the Supervisor, Radiological Technology practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice as well as utilizing a client and family centered care model and the vision and values of the department within Fraser Health (FH).
The Supervisor works in a team based environment and is responsible for the supervision and coordination of shift activities. Oversees the quality of technical work performed, participates in the instruction of staff and students by instructing in the use of radiology techniques and assessing performance. Performs radiographic duties in Medical Imaging as well as other areas such as Emergency, Operating Room, patient units and the morgue.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and coordinates the technical and staffing activities for assigned area by performing duties such as coordinating work assignments, setting priorities, providing technical guidance/advice, assisting with troubleshooting of equipment, facilitating workplace solutions with other personnel and consulting with the medical staff and other technical team members as required to ensure services are performed in an effective, efficient and cost effective manner.
- Performs technical work such as positioning patients, explaining procedures, correlating clinical history with examination to be performed, and operating imaging equipment in accordance with established standards and procedures. Monitors patient during procedures and responds to emergent situations in accordance with facility policies and procedures. Assists Radiologist with fluoroscopic procedures and prepares contrast for radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.
- Responds to inquiries from other clinical areas regarding patient examinations and schedules and refers other concerns to appropriate supervisor as required.
- Facilitates rearrangement of assignments to provide coverage in cases of unplanned staff shortages/absences, calling in relief staff as appropriate and identifying overtime requirements for approval in accordance with established overtime policies.
- Participates in performance management of team members to promote quality work performance. Provides input regarding technical competence and additional training requirements. Documents performance problems, which may lead to discipline for managements attention and follow-up.
- Participates in the departmental Continuous Quality Improvement/LEAN programs by using established monitoring and auditing methodologies to perform quality assurance checks such as patient/physician satisfaction or booking protocols.
- Participates in maintaining patient and hospital records by entering data into the radiology and hospital information systems as required.
- Participates in approved research and special projects in collaboration with Supervisor and other health care professionals.
- Maintains designated work area by checking and cleaning equipment, setting up examination trays for specific procedures, receiving and stocking supplies in designated area, identifying depleted items and notifying Supervisor of purchases as required.
- Maintains equipment by monitoring its operation and making arrangements for maintenance and repairs as required.
- Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience
Current Certification with the CAMRT.
A minimum of two (2) years' recent, related experience, including one (1) year supervisory and leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Medical Imaging theory and practice within a client and family centered care model.
- Knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT.
- Knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with radiology equipment.
- Knowledge of hospital and Radiology Information Systems.
- Knowledge of PACS i.e. digital imaging, image archiving and retrieval.
- Demonstrated ability to function as an effective leader, motivator, facilitator, and team member.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate, coach and mentor staff.
- Demonstrated ability to develop procedure protocols and manuals.

- Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to area of specialty and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
