The salary range for this position is CAD $49.20 - $67.08 / hour

Detailed Overview

Using the four dimensions of nursing practice, the Clinical Coordinator provides nursing leadership as well as clinical and educational coordination and support to the interdisciplinary team and to staff, patients, residents and families.

Plans, organizes, delivers and evaluates clinical and educational activities and programs consistent with clinical best practices and in accordance with established policies, standards and philosophy of the Program.


Responsibilities

  1. Ensures patient-focused care planning through the coordination and supervision of the work of the interdisciplinary health care team and support staff on a day-to-day basis. Allocates and adjusts patient assignments; schedules and coordinates staff; evaluates employee performance based on British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards of Practice, clinical practice standards and established FH policy and procedures.
  2. Develops and implements clinical decision-making tools consistent with clinical standards, policies and procedures, in collaboration with appropriate members of Fraser Health.
  3. Role models theory-based practice to support the needs of patients and staff. Facilitates team building; provides feedback and direction to staff for planning patient care.
  4. Determines education priorities that meet clinical and learner needs, in collaboration/consultation with interdisciplinary team members. Plans, implements and evaluates educational and clinical programs to meet the learning needs of direct care services staff including orientation, clinical teaching, and in-service; coordinates the development and review of instructional materials and maintains program records. Identifies learning outcomes; provides/delivers educational activities such as teaching, mentoring, conducting formal presentations, demonstrations and lectures.
  5. Monitors and is accountable for the scheduling of staff, including overtime, vacations and leave requests; ensures service levels and staffing requirements are met in assigned areas, in collaboration with the Manager.
  6. In conjunction with the interdisciplinary team, participates in the development of learning objectives based on the needs of patients/residents/clients. Provides clinical support and guidance and evaluates the effectiveness of learning opportunities.
  7. Provides input and recommendations to Manager on budget/resource development; submits reports as required.
  8. In consultation with the Manager, participates on interview panels as requested and assists with the selection of new staff, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  9. Participates in the investigation of complaints by patients/residents/clients; follows up on complaints and implements corrective action, as appropriate.
  10. Identifies own learning needs and engages in a variety of activities to meet these needs, in consultation with the Manager.
  11. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and participates in research & quality improvement activities. Collects data and compiles statistics. Assists with quality monitoring activities by conducting initial investigations, analyzing effectiveness of standards, processes and procedures and recommends improvements to the Manager.
  12. Participates in various internal and related meetings as required.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three (3) years' recent related clinical experience in designated clinical area, including one (1) year of experience in an education/leadership role supplemented by recognized post-basic clinical training and/or management courses, plus successful completion of an Intravenous Therapy course/equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Demonstrated organizational, coordination and conflict resolution skills, coupled with an ability to problem solve.

  • Demonstrated ability to promote change.
  • Knowledge of research processes and methodology.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including related software applications.
