Job Summary
We are hiring a Relief Full Time Occupational Therapist to join our team in Burnaby, B.C.
Burnaby Hospital is seeking an Occupational Therapist to provide assessment, treatment planning, and delivery of individual and group occupational therapy services for clients in the In-Patient Psychiatry Unit. Working under the direction of the In-Patient Unit Coordinator and Rehabilitation Coordinator, you will be part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team supporting patient recovery and discharge planning.

Detailed Overview
Under the direction of the In-Patient Unit Coordinator and the Rehab Coordinator, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for the provision of occupational therapy services, including assessment, planning, and implementation of group and individual treatment of in-patient clients at Burnaby Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Develops and implements occupational therapy program and services for the In-Patient Psychiatry Unit; evaluates and revises programs as required.
- Develops and implements psychosocial group programs for the In-Patient Unit in collaboration with professionals from other disciplines.
- Performs occupational therapy functional assessments, program planning, interventions, discharge planning, follow up and program evaluation using recognized occupational therapy techniques and practices.
- Conducts home assessments/community visits, as required.
- Collaborates with Activity Worker's and may supervise volunteers and peer support workers as appropriate; monitors clinical and ethical standards of occupational therapy practice in psychiatry.
- Participates in developing, monitoring and revising written policies, procedures and quality assurance standards used in the occupational therapy program for the In-Patient Unit.
- Provides timely and relevant information in psychiatry rounds and team conferences promoting an interdisciplinary approach to patient care and program related issues.
- Completes required reports, records, and workload statistics.
- Participates in student education by providing guidance and input to current and potential occupational therapy students, rehabilitation assistant students, and/or work experience students.
- Reports the operating and capital budget requirements for the Psychiatry Occupational Therapy Program; participates in monitoring the level of supplies and equipment; reports equipment malfunctions.
- Participates in program meetings and in-service education sessions by sharing experience and expertise to meet staff education needs and to participate in problem identifying and solving.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy. Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists - British Columbia (CAOT-BC). Two years' recent experience in a psychiatric setting.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated/referenced effective skills in the areas of planning, organizing, problem-solving, leadership, coordinating, communication and interpersonal relations.
- Ability to maintain knowledge of current developments in occupational therapy reviewing professional literature, consulting with other professionals, and actively participating in relevant educational programs.
- Physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
- Ability to communicate effectively regarding the efficacy of occupational therapy services and a recovery oriented approach to treatment.
