Job Summary

Fraser Health is seeking to fill the Department Head of Psychiatry position which provides overall professional practice leadership and direction to the members of a professional medical discipline/department within Delta Hospital.

 

The successful candidate will have lead responsibility for the maintenance of medical and ethical standards of practice and ensures activities of the Department are consistent with the FH MHSU program priorities and directions.

 

Reporting and accountable to the Regional Department Head (RDH) and as a member of the Delta Hospital (DH) medical staff, they will work as a team player with colleagues and co-workers in identifying service delivery models and processes to ensure seamless integration of services within acute care, community care and primary care, while maintaining system sustainability.

 

Recruitment will proceed as per the FHA Medical Staff Bylaws.

 

Reporting to the Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) Program Medical Director/Regional Department Head, the responsibilities of the Head of Department (Local) will include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in the Multidisciplinary Healthcare Coordinating Committee for the facility.
  • Participate in the Department of Psychiatry operations committee meeting.
  • Function as the channel of communication to and from the Regional Department to keep Members practicing within the facility informed regarding FHA, HAMAC and Departmental objectives, policies and general activities and to ensure Regional Departments are aware of issues specific to the facility.
  • Ensure the requirements of programs operating within the facility are coordinated.
  • Maintain regular communication with operational leaders and Physician Leads within the department of community mental health teams.
  • Attend the MHSU regional meetings.
  • Monitor and optimize key mental health performance indicators.
  • Oversee a program of quality monitoring.
  • Ensure continuous adequate medical staffing in both hospital and community mental health team programs.
  • Review applications for privileging and make recommendations regarding the granting of privileges to physicians.
  • Manage physician compensation budget, in collaboration with the program manager(s) for the Delta Hospital and Community mental health teams.
  • Promote health and wellness amongst Members.
  • Investigate complaints regarding care provided by Members within the Department at the Facility under the direction of the appropriate Regional Department Head(s).
  • Encourage a healthy, respectful workplace.
  • Review with the Regional Department Head the human resource requirements of the Regional Department practicing within the facility.
  • Contribute to the search and selection of applicants for vacancies in the Regional Department

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must:

  • Have current licensure with CPSBC and current CMPA coverage.
  • Have FRCPC in Psychiatry or FRCPC eligible.
  • Be an active Medical staff member of the Delta Hospital and the Fraser Health Authority Mental Health and Substance Use Program, and
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
