Why this role is important?

We are seeking a Clinical Practice Consultant, Professional Practice focused on supporting and enhancing team-based care throughout Fraser Health. In partnership with operational and clinical leaders, you will provide leadership in planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating team-based care education and practice support.

Accountable to the Director, Allied Health, the Clinical Practice Consultant will be focused on advancing quality practice environments while promoting opportunities to enhance team-based care. You will have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with clinical programs/sites, settings, regional committees/structures, management/operations, practice leaders, external partners and the Professional Practice team. You will have the opportunity to develop a strong network of partnerships with the goal of promoting and advancing team-based care practice at FH.

You will be responsible for:

  • Practice consultation leadership and guidance to clinicians, managers and directors to ensure that FH is a leader in team-based care and a professional practice environment.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders and educators to optimize learning environment and clarity on roles and scope of practice for both regulated and unregulated health care providers.
  • Collaboration with Directors, Professional Practice to develop implementation plans that support compliance with the legislation and regulations for the appropriate professional group(s) such as Health Professional Act.
  • Overseeing and supporting projects and initiatives, incorporating change management and knowledge translation considerations.
  • Maximizing health human resources utilization by facilitating full scope of practice for all categories of health providers.
  • Recommending and leading or contributing to the development of new clinical policies and procedures.
  • Contribute or provide consultation to current or new clinical decision support tools.
  • Partnering with various internal and external stakeholders to review, revise, and deliver, team-based care education and practice support resources.
  • Representing FH and Professional Practice at various events including educational family forums, professional associations, regulatory bodies and external committees.
  • Supporting clinical research to promote the development of clinical knowledge and its application to professional practice.

Are you motivated to join us? We will be looking for you to have:

  • Master's degree in a health profession or in health administration, education, or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' recent, related clinical and/or education experience in a complex health care environment including dynamic professional practice, education, project management and leadership experience.
  • Current practicing registration with a health professions regulatory college or association in British Columbia.

  • Advanced consultation, facilitation and project management knowledge including program implementation, education, and evaluation.
  • Flexibility with a high level of initiative and self-direction.
  • Demonstrated effective decision-making, critical appraisal and supervision skills.
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Detailed Overview

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:

The Clinical Practice Consultant, Professional Practice works in collaboration with the health team to establish Fraser Health (FH) as a provincial leader in clinical best practice and patient outcomes.  Within all sectors (acute and community), provides leadership in implementing, monitoring and evaluating the scope and standards of clinical practice identified by regulatory bodies and FH.  Key activities include clinical practice assessment, advice, education, and practice development for the purpose of advancing quality clinical practice that results in safe, ethical, quality health outcomes for patients, clients and residents.

The Clinical Practice Consultant provides consultation in the use of evidence, knowledge dissemination and collaborative internal/external partnerships to plan, develop, problem solve, implement, and evaluate clinical programs/initiatives.  Works in close collaboration with clinical programs/sites, settings, regional committees/structures, management/operations, practice leaders, external stakeholders and the Professional Practice team and develops a strong network of partnerships with the goal of promoting and advancing professional clinical practice at FH.


Responsibilities

  1. Provides practice consultation leadership and guidance to clinicians, managers and directors to ensure that FH is a leader in clinical care and a professional practice environment.
  2. Offers practice assessment, advice and problem-solving for complex practice challenges. 
  3. Collaborates with Directors, Professional Practice to develop implementation plans that support compliance with the legislation and regulations for the appropriate professional group(s) such as Health Professional Act.  This may include an education plan, clinical decision support tools, revision of supporting documentation, and a plan to support the various operational teams and physicians impacted by changes to practice.
  4. Oversees and supports projects and initiatives, incorporating change management and knowledge translation considerations.
  5. Oversees specific PPI staff as designated and related projects as assigned including the supervision of day to day operational work.
  6. Maximizes health human resources utilization by facilitating full scope of practice for all categories of health providers.
  7. Recommends and leads or contributes to the development of new clinical policies and procedures.
  8. Obtains, reviews and disseminates current information including Professional Standards of Practice, Professional Scope of Practice, Ethical Standards of Practice; and Limits & Conditions.
  9. Partners with various internal and external stakeholders to conceptualize, develop, deliver, and/or coordinate practice education programs funded by the Nursing Directorate or FH.
  10. Represents FH and Professional Practice at various events including educational family forums, professional associations, regulatory bodies and external committees.
  11. Collaborates with various professional practice councils to support practice development in FH through the development of multidisciplinary and discipline specific clinical tools.
  12. Networks, understands and supports all professional practice council structures and related clinical groups such as Professional Practice representatives to specific program teams, for the primary purpose of practice integration, consolidating practice, minimizing duplication, and facilitating consistency in standards of care, scope of practice and care delivery.
  13. Supports clinical research to promote the development of clinical knowledge and its application to professional practice.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduate of an approved clinical health profession with a Master's degree in that health profession or in health administration, education, or related field. A minimum of five (5) years' recent, related clinical and/or education experience in a complex health care environment including progressive professional practice, education, project management and leadership experience. Current practicing registration with the relevant regulatory college or association in British Columbia.
