Our Division & Communities

Foothills School Division (FSD) serves the learning needs of approximately 8000 students from preschool to grade 12.?We operate 22 public schools, an online digital school, an alternative campus, and three colony schools. These are located in the towns of Okotoks, High River, and Diamond Valley, and the communities of Blackie, Cayley, Heritage Heights, Red Deer Lake, Longview, Millarville and Foothills County.??

FSD is located on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy and the first peoples of southern Alberta including the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, Tsuut’ina, and Stoney Nakoda First Nations. This land is also the proud home to the Métis Nation of Alberta Region 3. FSD stretches from the city of Calgary's southern border and east of Kananaskis Country in Foothills County.

This middle school serves a student population of 334 in grades 6 through 8 and is located in the town of High River just south of Calgary. The shared vision of a Senator Riley Colt is centered on it's Community, Learning & Character.

The School Leader Candidate

In accordance AP 430 - System Leader and School Leader Staffing, the following school leader profile reflects the leadership competencies, attributes, skills and knowledge required for the role of principal.?

be an experienced teacher and school administrator with knowledge and skills in:

cultivating quality teaching through differentiated instruction and effective pedagogy within a continuum of supports (universal to individualized)

demonstrating a strong understanding of effective pedagogy and curriculum

creating a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environment

effective use of educational technologies for teaching, learning, and leadership

instructional leadership and staff development based on current research that ensures every student has access to quality teaching and optimum learning experiences

enabling opportunities for members of the school community to develop leadership capacity and to support others in fulfilling their educational roles.

advancing innovative learning opportunities for students through Maker-Centered and Career and Technology Foundations resulting in real world learning experiences for students

establishing home/school communication plans that effectively report progress of student learning and achievement to parents.

be able to sustain shared commitment to:

the vision of Engagement, Support and Success for each learner.

Reconciliation and reciprocal relationships to support the application of Foundational Knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit;

developing collaborative relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Cultural Advisors, local leaders and community members within a holistic approach to child development

being an advocate for their school community within the framework of Divisional teamwork.

Qualifications:?

To prepare for this role, you have:

Master’s degree, complete or near completion, in educational leadership or a related field

Alberta Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) certification or commitment to complete

A proven record of successful educational leadership experiences
