Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Benefits & Well-Being for Canada, this role supports the Total Benefits team in achieving our purpose. The Total Benefits & Well-Being Consultant provides subject matter and analytical expertise for our benefits, retirement & savings and well-being programs. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the delivery of HR total benefits initiatives, with a focus on providing a modern, compelling and integrated experience for our employees.

What will you do:

  • Be the subject matter expert and internal advisor for a range of benefit and well-being programs, policies and processes including (but not limited to):

    • Flexible Benefits Plan

    • Time Off Policies

    • Well-Being Rewards Program

    • Virtual Health supporting including Employee & Family Assistance Program

    • Pension & Stock Ownership Programs

  • Maintaining resources and communications aligned to our employee experience framework, ensuring timely updates that reflect new or updated content, and alignment with Sun Life brand standards, including (but not limited to):

    • Engage posts

    • Workday Knowledge Base articles

    • Employee Booklets and Contracts

    • People Leader resources and support

    • Team activations and presentations

  • Deliver foundational projects and assignments with limited support from Manager, Benefits and Well-Being, projects including (but not limited to):

    • Annual Benefits Re-enrolment

    • Sabbatical

    • Retiree communications

    • Benefit tax calculations

    • Year-end reporting

    • Bonus roll-over campaign

    • Save more tomorrow campaign

  • Investigate and resolve complex inquiries from employees (active and on leave) and retirees related to our benefit and savings programs (tier 2 inquires).

  • Continuously improve Total Benefits process and identify automation / optimization opportunities, where applicable.

  • Partner with Sr Consultant, to identify ongoing opportunities to educate, enhance and innovate our programs.

  • Preparation of reports, distribution lists and other data analysis using Excel to support the day-to-day administration of our programs. May involve creation of graphs and charts using Excel, as needed.

  • Ensure accurate process documents are maintained with timely updates reflecting newly passed legislation and/or contractual changes.

  • Partner with internal departments and external service providers to ensure the overall efficiency of our programs and resolve any issues in a timely manner.

  • Perform other operational duties as assigned including (but not limited to) updating member records related to demographic changes as well as benefit record changes, responding to members, processing deaths, administering leaves & return adjustments.

  • Provide guidance, direction, and training for less experienced team members.

What you need to succeed:

  • A thorough understanding of foundational Group Benefits and Group Retirement Services programs and processes, along with other employee benefit arrangements (i.e., vacation and time off programs, leaves of absence, etc.).

  • Strong knowledge of benefits & insurance products, retirement & savings products and workplace wellness programs.

  • Proficient Microsoft Excel skills and spreadsheet analysis.

  • Autonomous learner with deep curiosity to learn about Total Benefits and Workplace Well-being.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Focus on accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Employee centric and continuous improvement mindset.

  • Creative and innovative thinker, with a passion for improving employee experiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and consulting skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities in a fast-paced, high volume environment.

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of HR programs.

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • 2 - 5 years experience working in plan sponsored total benefits programs.

  • University degree or equivalent experience.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
