Job Description:

You are on the elite External Reporting & Analysis team that delivers our core messaging to Senior Management, the Board of Directors, and ultimately to investors. Keys to success include effective collaboration with leaders at all levels in the organization, excellent communication skills, being highly motivated with a keen interest in continual learning and career development, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to challenge the status quo.

Reporting to the Director, External Reporting & Analysis, this role supports the development and production of our external Earnings News Release, Management’s Discussion & Analysis, Supplementary Financial Information Package, and Annual Information Form. This role will work closely with various business partners to understand key analytical insights, allowing them to dive into complex issues to develop key messaging for external consumption and our leadership team. This role will also support the continued digitization of financial information and the transformation of our reporting process through effective deployment of technology.

What will you do?

  • Coordinate the input to and draft our external Earnings News Release, Management’s Discussion and Analysis, and Supplementary Financial Information Package (quarterly and annual), as well as the Annual Information Form (annual)

  • Connect the big picture, understand the business, and manage complexity across deliverables

  • Support the leadership team and other stakeholders to proactively identify, understand, and explain key messages, trends, and variances

  • Partner with the various suppliers to understand complex transactions and overall financial impact

  • Coordinate and participate in meetings with key stakeholders and business partners, including Senior Executives

  • Monitor and benchmark key trends, issues, and best practices for public disclosure across our peers in the Financial Services and Insurance industries to continually enhance our external communication

  • Monitor to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements are being met (including those from IFRS, OSC and SEC)

  • Ensure strong internal controls and processes are in place

  • Leverage tools and technology to improve processes and lead process improvement projects

What do you need to succeed?

  • Professional designation (CPA, CFA) or equivalent with 5 years of Insurance or Financial Services industry experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively provide clear and concise messaging to internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong technical, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills and acute attention to detail

  • Experience and strong knowledge of SEC, OSC, OSFI and IFRS requirements for external disclosures

  • Collaborative working style with strong interpersonal, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills to partner with employees/leaders at all levels in the organization

  • Ability to influence without authority

  • Creative and innovative with the ability to recommend and implement improved processes

  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to work across multiple functions and business groups

  • Proficiency with Wdesk (or other similar external disclosure platform) and SharePoint/Office365 is an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
