The Corporate Risk Operations team

This position offers an exciting opportunity for the Corporate Risk Operations Manager to play a critical role in the Risk Office as part of Sun Life’s Corporate Risk Operations (CROps) team. The Risk Manager will work closely with seventeen Corporate Functional Areas and Information technology (DBTS), performing second line oversight functions and independent challenge of risk owners within these areas.

What will you do?

People’s Management/Coaching

  • Manage team operations: Support the Director, Corporate Risk Office in overseeing daily activities and ensure timely completion of tasks/deliverables. Provide the first escalation point to junior analysts in addressing any issues promptly, contributing to maintaining a high-functioning team.
  • Develop and mentor staff: Provide coaching, and mentorship to help team members enhance their skills and advance their careers within the organization.

Risk Management and Governance

  • Work together with the Director, Corporate Risk Office, to lead the collaboration with the Operational Risk Officers (OROs), providing trainings and ensuring that all deliverables are received in a timely manner.
  • Lead the implementation of risk programs oversight for Corporate Business Group (BG) and DBTS including Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), BEQ/Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), Policy Non-Compliance/Issues management, Operational Risk Events (OREs), Model and Business Computing Tools (MBCT) and Strategic Initiative Change Management,

Third Party Risk Management Program/Quality Assurance

  • Lead the risk management oversight for third parties ensuring that the lifecycle of third parties management follows the enterprise operating guideline requirements.
  • Perform quality assurance of third-party risk management process ensuring all steps in the process are followed consistently by maintaining detailed records of risk assessments, including findings, and recommendations
  • Oversee and implement quality assurance testing to ensure the effectiveness and reliability of risk management practices and outputs.
  • Flag discrepancies or missing information for follow-up with third parties or internal stakeholders

Reporting

  • Support the Director, Risk Office in the production of timely and accurate risk reports to senior management and the board.
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly Operational Risk Profile Report utilizing comprehensive data to generate overall risk ratings for all Corporate Functional Areas and DBTS, providing a holistic view of operational risks across the organization

What do you need to succeed?

  • 5 years experience working in Risk Management, Audit or Compliance roles
  • University degree or equivalent in Business, Management, Accounting, Computer Science or Engineering. Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Has stepped up in a range of situations to take on a leadership role (change management, comfortable with change)
  • Has proven skills when it comes to helping clients meet their needs, and potentially going above and beyond for the client
  • Advanced time management, organizational skills and People’s development skills
  • Excellent presentation skills across a variety of audience, including senior leaders
  • Results oriented team player and Strong attention to detail

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
